Twenty-Five, why is this age so significant? It seems like a blink of an eye ago that I was sitting on my couch watching Disney Channel movie premiers on a Friday evening. I remember being a teenager, thinking that 25 was really old, and making a quarter life bucket list of every single accomplishment I wanted to achieve before hitting this age. As of Tuesday, I’ve been around for a quarter-century! BIG 25, and I’m freaking out. But why? Maybe it’s the standards that society has placed on us. By 25 you’re supposed to be married, and well along in your career. Most of us do not fit in the “MOLD” that the rest of our 25-year-old friends are living. We feel ashamed for not having it all by a certain age.
I can’t tell you how may times I thought something was wrong with me because I wasn’t getting married, nor starting my own family by the age 25. Instead I’m choosing my own path, and not compromising to unrealistic and arbitrary standards. Reminding myself everyday that it is okay not to have everything right now. Instead I want to focus on enjoying where are I am, right here, right now.
So what does 25 really mean? It means living in the moment. Enjoying everything that’s happening in your life right now, and not worrying about something that you can’t control. Experience something new, travel the world, learn about yourself, and become comfortable with the person within.
For my quarter century year I plan on living life as fully and uniquely as I can by choosing my own path and having ownership over my own life. Let’s be honest, I’m still trying to keep up with all of the current dating apps! At the age 25, I’m still lost, and that’s okay!
Who said we have to live by society’s standards anyways?
