I am a millennial.
I have a college degree, working on my masters, and work in corporate America.
At just 25 years young, I’ve been very fortunate to work for one of the top newspapers in the country. I am a part of one of the fastest growing industries, digital marketing, learning the ends and outs of all digital campaigns. Being one of the youngest at my company, I felt like it was necessary to share my thoughts about being a millennial working in corporate America.
This is what we dream for right? We go to college, receive our degrees, rack up on student loan debt, and hope to land our dream job.
Seems like there’s a new article everyday, expressing how millennials are taking over corporate America, but the question is, is corporate America ready for us? We are categorized as egotistical, lazy, narcissistic and entitled selfie-lovers. We do things out of the norm, and refuse to accept things as they’re given to us.
We are a game changer. Corporate America refuses to take us seriously, when really they need us. The work place is a afraid to adapt, but changes have to be made.
We are the largest, most educated generation in America right now. We aren’t difficult, we just see things differently. We want flexibility and we will not let a job dictate our lives. Corporate America has gone from scorning us, to fearing us.
We aren’t willing to settle. Instead we want to live a balance life that includes having time for everything that we love.
We want flexibility, have little interest in sitting in our cubicle all day and want to mean something.
Will continue to do things our way.
